a touch of history
The first buildings of Soglio (municipality of Orero) date back to the Roman Empire. The village used to be part of the “Via del Sale” (The Salt Road) where salt dealers drove their donkeys from the Ligurian salt pans to Piacenza. Local stories tell that, during the 17th century, the salt dealers used to stay in a small hostel close to where we live now. That is why we chose the name “Locanda del Sale”.
Soglio is also known for the San Michele Church right next to the Locanda. It dates back to the beginning of the 11th Century, making it one of the oldest churches of the Ligurian hinterland. Although still in great condition, the church is no longer in official use. But we have a key, if you want to see it from the inside!
